>And David Bowie -- "Ashes to Ashes", the follow-up to "Space Oddity"
How about "Major Tom" by Peter Schilling as a sequel to the sequel?
Or Cheap Trick's "Taxman, Mr. Thief" which is thematically related to the
Beatles "Taxman" and a wink to the Fabs themselves.
As for Steve D's initial inquiry about artists milking their own initial hit
potential with sequels....how about:
Chubby Checker - The Twist/Let's Twist Again
Paul Anka - Diana/Remember Diana
Buddy Holly - Peggy Sue/Peggy Sue Got Married
Neil Young - Harvest/Harvest Moon
Tears For Fears - We Are Broken/Broken
Anything by Bon Jovi where it appears that the characters Joey or Johnny or
Guido and the consumate moll Gina are constantly keeping the faith or livin'
on a prayer.
And does Neil Sedaka's remake of his own "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" count?
It's the same song, but they're distant cousins distinguished by their
diametrically opposed arrangements. One's a '60's sugar-coated pop
nugget...the other a jazzy torch song.
