I may be a bit late to the party on this one given that it was released in
August, but I just got the CD by The Uncle Devil Show, called "Terrible
Beauty", and I'm liking it quite a bit. The band is a supergroup of sorts,
featuring Justin Currie of Del Amitri and Simple Minds drummer Jim
McDermott, along with solo artist Kevin McDermott (his brother?). The cover
art is the first thing of which you'll take notice as it apes the cover of
The Strangeloves "I Want Candy" LP. I'm not sure if the music is a straight
homage to the '70s or a very subtle parody, but either way it's pretty
clever. Fans of Crowded House, Matthew Sweet, and classic melodic rock in
general will really like this, and the lyrics will definitely bring a
chuckle or two. The album includes a cover of my favorite Helen Reddy song
of the '70s, "Angie Baby".

The album is on Compass Records, a label with a general emphasis on
Americana, Celtic and other forms of UK roots music, but also featuring the
latest Glenn Tillbrook record. Not Lame has some song samples up there now.

A definite Top 20, perhaps Top 10 candidate for me this year.

Any other fans of this album among us Auditeers?
