I bought the new U2 and the new Green Day today. I'm still trying to
parse the U2, but I can tell you right now that this Green Day record is
nothing short of brilliant. Has there ever been a real punk rock opera
before? This AMG review is dead on, and in some ways I'm not sure they
even do the record full justice.

I'm finally ready to say out loud what I've thought for awhile: Green
Day is one of the greatest bands in the world today, and among punk
bands probably only the Ramones and Clash can claim to be legitimately
superior over the full course of their careers.

You may have success in life, but then just think of it -
what kind of life was it? What good was it - you've
never done the thing you wanted to do in all your life.
I always tell my students, go where your body and
soul want to go. When you have the feeling, then stay
with it, and don't let anyone throw you off.
