It's another Crapitol rush job, like they just got the rights from Beatles.Inc
last month and threw this box set together ASAP for Christmas sales. Or maybe
they wanted to get it out the door before the remaining fabs hear/see what a
lousy job they did and pull the plug.

The "collectors" book is nostalgic fluff - it has nothing about the history of
these albums or how they were remasted by Ted Jensen. The remastering is hit
and miss, I hear a lot of tape drop-outs and very nasty distortion, especally
on the Duophonic cuts. The mono versions sound much better, probably because
those tapes havent been used since 1968. Lots of bass!

I like the way the compression or reverb on "She Loves You" and "You Really
Got
A Hold On Me" covers up most of the bad tape edits. And there are stereo mixes
that just are sonic knockouts - the stereo mix of "Money" is just brutal,
and I
like the way the compression knocks the channels back and forth on "When I Get
Home" and boosts that little "ziiiing" right at the end of "Tell Me Why".

It all depends on if you grew up on the Capitol albums and want to hear them
again, the good news is they sound just like the old ones. Just remember to
pull the CD's out of the sleeve horizontally otherwise they or the booklet
will
wind up on the floor. Stupid design.
