Klaatu...there was a rumor, when the debut came out, that these guys were
The Beatles in disguise. Question Why?? Crack didn't hit the streets until
a few years later, so I can't attribute this rumor to people smoking too
much of it. Heck, this isn't THAT Beatle-esque. Can Auditeers who were
around at the time fill in the blanks?
The answer to that one is simple: The Beatles had broken up and everyone
(fans and industry) were desperate for the "next Beatles"... Think about how
many acts (during and after The Fabs) were always compared in one way or
another to them: Badfinger; Raspberries; The Knack, Klaatu you name it...
Sheer desperation my friend... and guess what? It's still done to this day
(just check some of Notlame's and CDBaby's CD descriptions... not that
they're desperate but that's the high standard the Beatles established)...
This just goes to prove, once again, that just like in the past, today The
Beatles are still the comparison standard for just about every musical
act... just my two pennies
Cheers,
Miguel
