Don't think I've seen these mentioned on this list yet, but there's an ensemble (headed by Joe McGinty) in NYC under the banner "The Losers Lounge" that periodically perform shows that are a tribute to a single artist/band. They've been presenting these shows for about 11 years now. Usually the musicians remain the same, but the singers rotate from song-to-song. Singers have included Tony Zajkowski (from Lotion), Edward Rogers, and John from They Might Be Giants (amongst many many others).

Anyway, I've had their 2 "Best of" CDs for awhile and recently picked up 5 show compilations from the website (those being Tributes to: George Harrison, Zombies, XTC, Elvis Costello, and Brian Wilson). Man, these are all outstanding. The songs are by enlarge pretty faithful to the original versions, but they usually add something new. I'm usually all for tribute CDs, but admit that there's more than far more bad ones out there than good (though I can't wait for Bruce's Cars trib later this month!). These are all uniformly good to great. The arrangements and musicianship are all first rate.

Check it out: http://www.loserslounge.com/

There you can see what shows have been performed over the years and buy the CDs directly (all but the 2 Best Ofs are just CDRs, but are only $10 ppd).
