Guess not, since your comparison means either that you've never heard
Franz Ferdinand, the Gang of Four, or both.
Me, I liked them better when they were called both Orange Juice and
Josef K, but since OJ and JK are two of my favorite bands, not many
groups have made the attempt to sound like them in the intervening
twenty years, and FF are the first band to combine what I liked best
about the two groups (Paul Haig's vocals, Orange Juice's rhythm
section, and Malcolm Ross' guitar, which was the common element of
both bands) while minimizing their weaknesses, I'd have to say that I
don't mind a bit that Franz Ferdinand reminds me of them. Nor do I
mind that "Take Me Out" and "Jacqueline" are actually getting airplay,
since they're two of the most thoroughly kick-ass singles I've heard
all year.
