Hi all,

More about IPO ...

In my last post I forgot to say what a beautiful city I found Cambridge to be. I hadn't been there in ten years, but was impressed that there was a real sense of neighborhood there. Passed a store where you could take home a fresh killed chicken!

I think that Boston is lucky to have a promoter like Andrea Kremer who cares so much about the music.

On to the New York shows this weekend. The Friday night gig was Rainbow Quartz night. I stood and danced in front of Myracle Brah. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. They have built a catalog of five albums in a few years, and will be recording their sixth. They have great dry humor, steady musicianship and have wonderful songs. I wonder if "Orange Shirt" is about an Orioles fan? Owing to a band or two not being able to make it, The Gripweeds played an extra long set, including two encores, possibly an IPO first. They sounded very tight, as they have played the material from the newly released album often enough in the last couple of years.

Saturday night at Acme Underground was a complete pleasure. The Cheepskates sound was so clean and traditional. Copperpot debuted a song called S-s-s-stutter, which may offend the Americans United Against Making Fun of Stutterers, but had a great h-h-h-hook. Jarrett was wearing theatrical makeup, his hair tousled just so. The Churchills sounded great, their new guitarist, Jed Higgerson of Dibs, fits in perfectly. And Spiraling featured Tom Brislin's clear voice and interesting keyboards.

So nice to see auditeers Gary "Pig", Ira, Leigh, Matty. Apologies if I forgot to mention someone.

David Bash rules!

See ya,
Sherman
