Growing up, I was a big proponent of the "Door are overrated, Morrison's poetry sucks" contingent, but now than I'm more than grown, I'll only abide by the "Morrison's poetry sucks" part. That band could cook. I've become a big fan of Morrison Hotel, in particular. The songs are short, concise, and fully arranged with a minimum of overdubs. It's most things garage rock was meant to be without the stupid lyrics about "little girls" who broke some pimply faced, greasy haired singer's heart. OK, Morrison manages to squeeze in a little bit of bad poetry, but I'm telling you: this album is a classic rock masterpiece.
You're on your own for those 10-minute poetry suites, "Riders on the Storm", and a lot of other stuff I still don't like.
