I've been listening to the Lennon acoustic disc for a few weeks now, and I'd
have to say that it's definitely for fanatics/completists only. Seven of the
tracks are previously unreleased, but some of them are in near-bootleg
quality. And does anyone REALLY need to hear brief acoustic snippets of "My Mummy's
Dead" or "Woman is the Nigger of the World?" To me, the whole deal seems like
a money-grabbing ploy.
Other new stuff I've been listening to: David Grahame's ERIC (typically
excellent, yet moodier than his previous ouput), the reissue of The Records'
CRASHES, with six bonus tracks ("I Don't Remember Your Name," "Hearts in Her Eyes"
and "Hearts Will Be Broken"---perfection) and Tommy Keene's DROWNING (he's one
of the greats).
Oh, and once again, a warning---Ed James' horrifically bad BIG TIME has been
officially released. One of the biggest pop disappointments of the year,
IMHO. Ed, what happened?
John B.
