As the author of the original post, I should have probably clarified my 
original intent:
The idea of thoroughly manufactured pop star such as Avril Lavigne 
slagging the abilities of another thoroughly manufactured pop star such 
as Jessica Simpson not only strikes me as laughable, but also 
ridiculous on its face.

I can only assume that Avril also pointed out that Ashlee was a kettle 
and painted black to boot.

There is, of course, a difference between performers and songwriters 
and my comments were intended to denigrate them.
I'm a massive Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett fan, so naturally I don't 
think the less of them for not having written their tunes.

I just found Avril's comments to be one of those great sort of 
postmodern moments.
