I agree with nearly everything you said, Bob.....but, I read
Richar'd email and my brain connected his comment --
"... a little sickening when you think about great acts like
The Shazam who can't get a break...." -- to the fact that
Ashlee Simpson obviously f*cked up royally on "live" TV,
even though he didn't really actually *say* that one had to
do with the other...I was just pointing out that there's no
logical link from one topic to the other...
Now, if he'd said that Bruce at Not Lame or Jim McGarry
at Rainbow Quartz had only a specific amount of money in
their promotion budget and could only promote EITHER
The Shazam *or* Ashlee Simpson, I could see the connection
very clearly. Otherwise, there's no real connection between
the two, other than Richard and you would like to see a band
like the Shazam succeed while seeing Ashlee Simpson to fail,
as that would represent a symbolic victory for "Credibility,
Talent, Music and Musical/Songwriting skills."
I agree with that (how could I not?) -- but I don't think the
reason (it appears to some folks, anyway) the Shazam can't
get a break on the fact that Ashlee Simpson has been given
breaks. It's just logic, man...that's all...

Let's stop the thinly-veiled personal insults now....ok? I'm of
the same opinion, and I work for the company who just inked
a deal with Paris Hilton for chrissakes! How do you think I
feel? It's a joke! "Music" and "talent" *are* pretty high on my list
of important factors....and I've done everything I can to make
sure the projects I've been involved in are the best they can be...
but hey, there's a whole slew of reasons bands like the Shazam
can't seem to catch a break, and a whole slew of reasons that
acts like Ashlee Simpson seem to get every break, they're just
not automatically linked ...
