Just thought I'd spread some new music love for those of you one the prowl...
BOWMAN - Living to Dream (www.bowmanband.com)
I first heard the sound clips on Notlame and was sold. Simple, familiar
yet undeniably engagin pop rock from Boston. Warm, full-bodied guitars
great production, and Bill Bowman's killer smooth vocals to boot.
RIYL: Owsley, Tom Petty, Churchills, etc...
THE SUN (www.thesunband.com)
Warner Brothers is still chasing the commerical indie rock dream, as witnessed
on this 6-song promo for The Sun's upcoming EP "Did Your Mother Tell You".
The problem is that The Sun will likely be treading water in the over-crowded pool
of artists vying for a spot between the latest Strokes and Interpol singles. It's too
bad...because the songs here are leagues better the Strokes, The Killers or Interpol!
THE O.A.O.T's - Typical (www.theoaots.com)
If the CD case for this album didn't say c. 2004, I'd have SWORN I was listening to
a long lost Rough Trade or early Sub Pop band from the late 80's! This is straight out
of 1987-89 college rock with punkish pop edge ala Buzzcocks and Ramones! LA's
O.A.O.T's (acronym for the "One and Only Typicals") play in-your-face, aggro power
pop with an unusually distinct 80's modern rock flair. Good stuff!
ALVA STAR - Escalator (www.alvastar.com)
This band's debut (2001's "Alligators in the lobby" was a pure pop gen. With "Escalator",
however, they've delved deeper into the foundation of progressive indie-ness with bands
like Radiohead and the Flaming Lips popping up as notable influences.
review, discuss, enjoy...
