so i had the pleasure of catching Sam Roberts yesterday. A friend is friends with his drummer and also with The Tragically Hip so I found myself on the guest list for the show. Man, that guy can rock. I haven't seen someone with that much energy and stage presense since the first time I saw Pearl Jam in '92 at Lollapalooza. Sam was jumping around the stage and belting out the lyrics, the guy was awesome.

I was right up in front and could hear everyone behind me singing the lyrics loud and clear, so he's definitely got a following.

odd observation: I couldn't help but feel I was watching the "band" from Almost Famous playing Sam's music on stage, because they just have this shaggy 70's look to them like the group from the movie.

odd observation#2: I've never felt more like an outsider in my own town. Everyone there was wearing hockey jerseys and waving maple leaf flags...The Hip definitely bring out the Canadians in force! who knew there was such a large canadian population in Baltimore...
