In Domenic Priore's "Look, Listen, Vibrate, Smile" book theres a quote from
Mike
Love "We've got to sing this song because EMI say It's our new release".
Reviewers blasted EMI for overlooking "Pet Sounds" (was Caroline No
released as
a single there?) and re-releasing an 2 year old recording. (page 197)
And I think "Girl Dont Tell Me" is a classic. it seems to be the most popular
(and easiest to cover!) with Power Pop bands over the years. Theres been some
great covers - Gary Usher produced a powerful "Wall Of Sound" version on Decca
in 1965 with a young singer by the name of Keith Green (who later became a
star
in Christian music in the late 1970's) and Tony Rivers & The Castaways did a
fine version on Immediate records in the UK around the same time. The
Smithereens (in thier first public perfomance) covered it, its on their
rarities comp "Attack Of The Smithereens".
