I agree wholeheartedly with Robbie White's rave review of the Brian Wilson performance in D.C. last week. I truly felt fortunate to be present for the show, and I'm glad I held off on listening to the CD until after the show so I'd be surprised by the sequencing.
I also thought "Beautiful Dreamer" was a great program, though I don't believe it discussed the making of the album. I believe someone posted here about a magazine with a feature story on the recording of "Smile." Would you mind mentioning it again, including the cover date? I'm not really clear as to whether all of the recordings were new, or if some of the '60s tracks were retained.
Finally, a song in the opening set of the D.C. show reminded me of The Toons, a California band that released a fine surf-pop album called "Looking at Girls" on Rhino way back when ('82?). Does anyone know if this was ever released on CD? I didn't see anything about it on the Rhino website. Perhaps a candidate for a Not Lame Archives project?
Be seeing you,
Bill
