I've owned a 30gb Nomad Zen Xtra for 2 months now & like it. Sound
quality is excellent (as expected from Creative). Bulkier than an
iPod but IMO none of the disk based are small & rugged enough for
vigorous activity - Creative's 4gb MuVo2 flash-based player may be
the cream of that market - my daugher loves her's.
Buttons are easy to use except the jog lever (for select) is funky
at best, but I understand it's better than previous models. One win
over iPods is the replaceable lithium ion battery - it was iPod
geeks @ work who immediately hit on that. For long trips just buy
an extra battery.
It supports file storage too. I use for shuffling programs & docs
between home & work, and mp3s too...
I think their Music Library support software reeks tho. Which is
why I spent $25 on Notmad Explorer from Red Chair - makes all the
difference in getting the usability out of my Nomad, & way easier
to use than Creative's.

My biggest problem was one of my own creation.... inconsistant
id tagging. Like with stuff I had transferred from vinyl to cdr
where I just used filenames to cue them up via winamp, etc, and
had no mp3 id tags...but these players only use mp3 tagging so
I had to cleanup my act. Found a scriptable linux id tagger that
will create mp3 tags based on filenames - save my but!
