There are real songs. My understanding from previous things I've heard and
read is that there are a lot of his unreleased/unrecorded tunes that he used
for the soundtrack (presumably as instrumentals), but that the soundtrack
will also feature five full-fledged songs, as reported in today's
Entertainment Weekly.
As for the myriad other rumored projects he's got in the pipeline -- a CD of
improvized tunes with Matt Chamberlain and Sebastian Steinberg, solo album
#2, a "best of" set from his Friday nights at Largo, an East Coast tour -- I
don't think anyone is well-advised to hold their breath.
