It seemed like they were going for 5:1 and the stereo mixes were an
afterthought. And I hated the way they gated Ringo's snare in "Sgt Peppers" so
where he sounds like hes banging on a trash can, the remix of "It's All Too
Much" could have been Oasis.

You can blame longtime Abbey Road remastering engineer Peter Mew for that, he
has done some outstanding work in the past but tends to get lazy and rely on
No-Noise and other digital processing gear to clean up the sound to the point
it sounds muffled and flat. 

He should take a tip from Bob Irwin (Sundazed), Bill Inglot (Rhino) and Steve
Hoffman (MCA and DCC) and leave the tape hiss and other artifacts in when it
cant be filtered out. I've got my fingers the sound quality of the Capitol
Versions box will blow away any other Beatles CD for sound quality, even with
duophonic, reverb and compression.
