Bob,
Here is how it breaks down and what you can expect for mixes.
Mono:
The only fold downs in this series will be
"Meet The Beatles" except for "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "This Boy"are
mono mixes from 10/21/63
"2nd Album" except for "You Can't Do That", which is a true mono mix.
For "Long Tall Sally" and "I Call Your Name" Captiol used mono mixes
specially prepared by Martin for the American album. The primary difference
between the US and UK mixes of "I Call Your Name" is the cow bell, which is
more up front on the later UK mix for the UK EP.
"Ill Get You" and "She Loves You" are the same mono mixes as on the UK
single.
Also, all of the mixes ARE NOT enhanched with echo like the stereo LP.
"Something New" of the 8 songs Capitol used from AHDN, they are the UK mono
mixes. "Things We Said Today" was mixed 6/9/64 for mono, used here. The
other 4 songs have different mixes then their UK versions. So you will not
find them on the EMI CDs.
"Beatles '65" all mono mixes.
"I'll Be Back" is a mono remix made for the US on 6/22/64
"She's a Woman" and "I Feel Fine" are also seperate mono mixes then the UK,
made for this album.
THEY ARE NOT ALL FOLD DOWNS!
There are reasons WHY you do need these for certain mono mixes.
Stereo:
Meet The Beatles
All but three songs on" Meet The Beatles" appear on "With The Beatles". For
these 9 songs, Capitol used the same stereo mixes as those on the UK album.
"I Saw Her Standing There" is the stero mix from "Please Please Me". "I Want
To Hold Your Hand" and "This Boy" are duophonic as there were no stereo
mixes made at the time for the mono UK single.
Second Album
Five leftover tracks from "With The Beatles" are the same stereo mixes used
there. Capitol added extra reverb to these songs during mastering. "Thank
You Girl" makes it's debut stereo mix here also. "You Can't Do That", "I'll
Get You" and "She Loves You" are duophonic, again coming from single mono
mixes. "Long Tall Sally" and "I'll Call Your Name" are stereo mixes that
were released 2 months before the UK.
Something New
All true stereo
Beatles 65
Same stereo mixes for 7 songs used on "Beatles For Sale". "I'll Be Back" is
the same stereo mix off of the UK "A Hard Days Night". The 2 songs from the
then Beatles current single "I Feel Fine" and "She's a Woman" are duophonic
mixes made by Capitol from it's mono mixes for the singles. Reverb used on
the album.
Hope this helps
