I forgot how excellent Elton John was in the Goodbye Yellowbrick
Road era. I'm also filling in the holes in my collection with CDs of
his
that I never ever had, such as Don't Shoot Me and Captain Fantastic --
 wow,
really top notch stuff! Beyond the extraordinarily high songwriting
level,
Elton had the most amazing sound and a fantastic band.

Hi Dave,
I have been really revisiting Elton over the last few years too!
One thing that has surprised me what I've discovered digging even
deeper into his catalogue. A few albums that I didn't love back when
they were released, I'm really enjoying now.
In the past, I really got into Elton's stuff from "Madman across
the Water" to "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road". I remember never getting
into "Captain Fantastic" at the time despite the praise it received.
Now, after giving it more listens, I can hear it's strengths. But,
the disc I never gave a chance long ago was "Tumbleweed Connection".
This is such a grower of an album. After never really getting into it
until recently it may be my second favorite of his (behind "Don't
Shoot Me"). It has really fine, well crafter songs. It's really a
brilliant disc. So check out "Tumbleweed" sometime if you have not.
