As big of a BB/Brian Wilson fan as I am, and in answer to your question, IMHO everything that could go wrong with an album went against "Getting Over My Head"... For starters the album opens with someone else taking the lead (Elton John)... When I heard that I immediately suspected we were in trouble with this production... The song is good it's just the fact that, here is your new album in so many years and you allow someone else to open it for you...
#2 - The production is, once again IMO, extremely lo-fi... Brian's voice sounds like it's being picked up by a lapel microphone... incredibly dissapointing sonic production
#3 - Weak songs... Paul McCartney's vocals could have been phoned in, that's how incredibly sorry his vocals on his "duet" with Brian were... Carl's song was ok but not great...
All in all, I kinda wish Brian had shelved this project and opted to wait for the genial "SmiLE" release... I like to pretend it never was issued because of my devotion to Brian Wilson's genius...
(BTW...sold my copy immediately on Ebay and couldn't believe that I'd see the day I'd be happy to get rid of a BB/Brian WIlson production)
