I just have to share. I recently made a power-poppish CD comp for a friend
of mine, whose musical interests lie primarily on the country end of the
musical spectrum (c.f. "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" - "We have both kinds of
music here, Country *and* Western"), but who has encouragingly developed a
strong affinity for Fountains of Wayne. Featured artists on the mix
included Bleu, Candybutchers, Tim Reid (man I love his latest), Brendan
Benson, Owsley, Elliott Smith, Jason Falkner, okgo, and assorted other
Audities-style goodies of recentish vintage.
It was with mild trepidation that I presented the mix to her - I mean, this
stuff is just too good, and if it didn't grab her, it would definitely feel
like a personal affront. Well, she dug it very very much, I'm happy to say,
so I'm already pondering the follow-up. Fingers crossed for a full-blown
Power Pop conversion!
