a non-biased review:
now, i have to say, before I even post this, that there is a reasonable amount of empathy for this kind of project from myself, as I did design the Rasperries book in 1993 with Mr. Sharp...that said, and believe me, I have a HUGE distance to this book, as I am not the biggest solo Eric fan, but nonetheless, appreciate the high points.....
and YES, i DID pay for this - it's only business, and only fair!
this is a pretty dang good read! not as fawning as one might think a fan derived tome might be, and some really cool stuff about the pre-Raspberries, Cyrus Erie era......most of this info and recollections are not in the Raspberries book, so it's not like there is duplicate info...
granted, this is from Eric's perspective, but it doesn't come off as one sided, and comments from the 'Berries members gives this some added depth....
the solo years are disected pretty much, and it's nice to see that Eric is at the very least honest about some of his work - while some may not feel his solo stuff doesn't match up to the Raspberries, you can chart his evolution into middle age and his own changes
and the chapter about his participation in Ringo Starr's All Starr Band is pretty sobering for those bent on the belief that Ringo was a perfectionist!!!!!!!!!
Conclusion?
A worthy read for pop fans, non Eric fans, and Raspberries fans too....
besides, what else are you gonna read this Fall that talks about the Left Banke??????
