I went to see Paul Simon in an arena when he was touring with the huge band
from South Africa - and they kinda left the house lights up a little bit.
Anyway - you know how some songs start off and they are kinda "clappy" - and
people do the clap to the beat thing? Well, this entire crowd did it to
every song - it was a mixed crowd (age-wise) - so I guess, other than some
strenuous toe-tappin' - this was rockin' out for them. But about an hour
in - one of the guys I went with lost it and started screaming, I could see
his point, but there was no alcohol for sale so I didn't help.
It was weird because it kinda started on one song, then developed a life of
it's own where I think people thought they were supposed to be doing it and
couldn't stop themselves. It got extremely distracting - and after awhile
you started to imagine yerself at some kind of rally.
