...I don't think there's been a purposely done Beach Boys tribute... but
decades ago when the dawn of CD's there was a limited release CD on the
Telarc label... a BB's sound-a-like band called Papa Do Ron Ron did a
note-for-note vocal-for-vocal BB's greatest hits... The beauty of this
recording is that it was one of the first DDD CD's out and you would get it
either because you were a BB's fan or because you wanted to show off your
new CD player... Another good Beach Boy's "in-the-tribute-vein" is Brian
Wilson's "I Just Wasn't Made For These Time" rockumentary soundtrack
produced by Don Was... If you want to count the "Nashville" release with
contemporary country singers covering their tunes I think it's safe to say
that with these 3 releases alone the Beach Boys have been more than well
covered as far as "tribute"... (Let's not forget the vast amount of times
their own material has been re-packaged ad-naseum as greatest hits
collections)... The Pet Sounds box, the live Pet Sounds... The Brian Wilson
Live @ the Roxy... Al Jardine, Family & Friends Live CD, etc, etc... No
greater BB's than me and I may be wrong but I think the market is quite
saturated and we fans have more than enough material to enjoy...

Cheers,

Miguel
