in order....

1. Be My Baby - The Ronettes
2. I Wish It Could Be Christmas (Everyday) - Roy Wood's Wizzard
3. No Regrets - The Walker Brothers
4. I Get Around - The Beach Boys
5. No Matter What - Badfinger
6. Move It On Over - Hank Williams
7. Overnight Sensation - The Raspberries
8. Carrie Ann - The Hollies
9. World Without Love - Peter & Gordon
10. Memphis - Chuck Berry

I can't think of a single tune recorded in the last 20 years that can join
this list. I almost placed Smells Like Teen Spirit #8 (and I think it is a
mighty fine radio hit) but then I realized I was only doing that to appear
somewhat modern. Screw it, I'm old but I listen to a lot of recent
music. I think I still have an open mind/ears, but the newer stuff seems
too polished, too contrived, too dated. Prince probably belongs up there
somewhere, but more for all his output and not for a single song.

Will Outkast still sound cool, even 5 years from now? I doubt it but I am
often wrong on these things....

Meanwhile, Discover America by Van Dyke Parks is still the greatest album
of all time. I believe I am alone in this opinion.
