I will defend Asia to the death, my friend! :-)

Seriously, though, I'm in the middle of writing a review of Asia's new album
(which is arguably the strongest thing they've done since John Wetton left
the fold...maybe not the greatest accomplishment in the world, but,
still...), and I find myself aware of how many '70s artists I didn't
discover until the '80s. It's to be expected, given that I wasn't even BORN
until 1970, but, as someone who came of age during the '80s, I didn't know
Yes until "90125," I was familiar with Emerson Lake and POWELL ("Touch and
Go," anyone?) before I knew anything about Carl Palmer, and...here's a
guilty pleasure for you...I really liked the two singles by GTR, despite
J.D. Considine's infamous "SHT" review. "When The Heart Rules The Mind" and
"The Hunter" are definitely two guilty faves of the '80s. Also, as much as
it often pains me to admit it, I really, really like Night Ranger. And I
stand by the fact that "Big Life" is one of the great underrated AOR albums
of the '80s...

Latah,

WILL
