Recently revisited his entire solo catalog----why? Not sure,
frankly....just wondering if I missed anything years back.
The answer: not a single song that I did not already like, did I
rediscover. Pretty much his entire career, while yielding a great
income
with some very good ballads(but not my cup of tea 95% of the time w/
him),
has been a consistent, disappointing bummer.
Hey Bruce,
Interesting. I recently bought Carmen's first solo disc (from 1975)
after not having heard it for years. I agree with you in terms of the
songs I didn't like then I still don't care to much for. I remember
really liking it over all at the time and seeing him seeing him in
concert at that time (as the warm up for Sweet). I honestly never
bought a Raspberrie's album prior to this but had many of the 45's
and loved them. Thus, at the time I remember liking the album over
all but quickly tired of the hits ("All by Myself", "Never gonna fall
in love again"). I also remember thinking his version of "On
Broadway" was kinda stale, to my ears. With later albums the hits
seemed to continue in the ballad arena and I grew uninterested very
quickly (at that time).
So I'm wondering how other's some up his first solo disc (esp. people
who were huge Raspberrie fans). Was it a major let down? What song's
stand out? Bruce, very curious which tracks you dug and didn't on
this one?
FWIW: Songs that still hold up very well for me:
"Sunrise", "Last Night", "Everything", and "No Hard Feelings"
