Hello everyone,
Dede was a close friend of mine who passed unexpectedly this past spring.
I have been able to get several favorite bands to play a show for her. I
appreciate anything you folks can do to help spread the word. I have more
information and posters as well if any of you can help. Thanks, -Art

A WAKE FOR DEDE - A TRIBUTE TO DEDE DAVIS
Featuring
THE CONNELLS
GEORGE HUNTLEY
STREET GREEN
A special charity performance of these bands will be held on Saturday
September 18th at the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, NC to remember our
dear friend Diana âDedeâ Davis who died suddenly on April 11, 2004.
Proceeds will benefit her family.
Please join us for a musical tribute to our friend Dede who was well known
as a lover and supporter of independent music.
Dede was on the front row at every one of the approximately 120 Connells
shows she attended. She was a 15-year friend of the band, who will be
playing many of the songs she liked best. âIt is a devastating loss,â
Mike Connell has said. âEvery show we play from now on is for Dede,â said
Doug MacMillan, lead singer for The Connells. George Huntley, former
guitar player for The Connells, was also a favorite to whom she lent her
tireless energy and support.
Dede is remembered as a true friend, a true independent music fan and
supporter, and a "force of nature" whose enthusiasm for life lifted the
spirits of everyone who knew her. According to George Huntley: âDede made
it out to 100 plus shows, always had a smile, and always sang along even
if no one else was in attendance. Dede had words of encouragement for
tough situations⦠I will miss Dede but she will always be with me in my
memories.â
Dede also shared a special relationship with Street Green. Members of
Street Green were in the critically acclaimed The Mayflies USA who
referred to her as âfan one.â Dede not only attended shows, she worked
tirelessly to support independent bands and musicians in person, on the
Internet, and through an extensive social network by buying copies of CDs
and giving them away so that local and distant music lovers could hear the
music. She gave away CDs to fans from England, the Netherlands, Japan,
Germany, and Sweden. Dede recalled not only an extensive array of music
facts but personal birthdays and anniversaries for road wary musicians. On
one memorable occasion she took the last of her cash and bought several
CDs to give to excited yet cash strapped new fans at a concert. She said,
âItâs the music that matters.â
Come prepared to have a roarin' good time, just like Dede would have
wanted!
Tickets (for a low $10) are available at the Visulite Theatre.
