No, Al was an original but he left the group to attend college, studying
Dentistry. He rejoined when neighbor/replacement Marks was removed
(presumably by Murray).

Coincidence? 5 minutes ago my mp3 player randomly selected Looking At
Tomorrow, an excellent Al tune.

and every time I hear Papa Was A Rolling Stone by The Temptations, I can
not help but recognize that the opening line "it was the third of
September..." is Al Jardine's birthday. Some years ago, I saw Al sitting
at a coffee stand on the 2nd floor of the Harborplace complex in downtown
Baltimore. The band was playing that night and I knew it was him. It was
9/3. I walked up, apologized for the intrusion, wished him a happy
birthday, and thanked him for his music. He seem genuinely pleased, if a
bit startled (I was an aging executive in an expensive suit at the time).

God Bless Al Jardine, a really nice human being.
