Hi,
Forgive me if this is old hat, but I saw Mr. and Mrs. Brian Wilson interviewed by Larry King a couple of nights ago.
Brian said that his deafness was congenital, and not the result of being hit by Murry, although he did say that his dad was quick to use his belt. With child-like honesty, he called Mike Love "egotistical". Brian said that he suffers from auditory halucinations, the voices inside his head almost always say "you're no good" or "I'm going to kill you". Melinda said that the particular type of depression that Brian suffers from is associated with hallucinations. His wife said that Brian's depression is somewhat improved due to a new mix of meds.
Melinda came down hard on Marilyn Wilson, saying that the Wilsons lived so close to great psychiatrists at UCLA, so it was bizarre that the family hired a charlatan like Eugene Landy. Yet Brian insisted that the Landys did co-write the tunes ascribed to them. Funny, Brian spoke about Al Jardine as if he were a founder of the band, wasn't that David Marks?
Larry King was no expert on the Beach Boys, so many of the questions were asked out of ignorance. But Brian has an album to sell, and Larry King does have a large audience. Optimistically, Brian said that "Smile" will be released this fall.
It's not easy to have your personal life examined through a microscope, and I thought the Wilsons came off well.
