That's what we called ours. Although we never (during my membership, anyway)
opened for 10,000 people like Gary did, we played a "Jan & Dean Boat Cruise" on
a riverboat as a prelude to a Jan and Dean Show later that night. Truthfully, I
think there were more people on the WWSW-sponsored boat cruise than at the gig.

We met the guys afterward, and they were cool.

Somewhat related to the "cool covers" thread, the UpBeats used to tack odd
openings onto songs. The guitar intro to "Sweet Child of Mine" became the
opening for "I Think We're Alone Now." And we used that Skid Row intro to "18
and Life" (or whatever tha song was) to go into a obscenely happy original song.
We also worked up a reggae version of "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love," but our lead
guitarist refused to play it out...he was a big Van Halen fan, and he deemed
this sacreligious.

Momentary Coincidence: When we opened for Marshall Crenshaw and Fire Town, we
gave Butch Vig a copy of our 45. When Nirvana's song "Dumb" showed up on "In
Utero," the cello line sounded a lot like the riff from our "Forget About You."
But, Steve Albini produced "Utero," not Vig, and ther is also a similarity
'twixt our riff, "Dumb" and "Shake Some Action."
