You're welcome! Some other things to check out: I
just picked up a book by Dennis Coffee that talks
about his years as a later member of the "Funk
Brothers." I'll post the title later - I'm writing
from work...
Also, a local (Pittsburgh) guy has been getting
some press lately on a book he's written about his
years as a Motown engineer. Haven't read this one
yet, but you can get deatils at www.motownmusic
machine.com.
I really enjoyed Standing In The Shadows of
Motown, but I've only seen it once. I loaned the
DVD to a guy at the CD store I used to shop at, and
when they closed, I never heard from the guy
again...
The only question I had was, at the end, when all
the songs that they played on were flying through
the air, "Bernadette" was listed. Carol Kaye also
sez she played on that song.
And on the tape compression stuff: in my 4-track
days, I used to submix stereo to 1/4" 15 IPS,
then bounce back to 4-track. That stereo submix
always seemed to have dynamics that I didn't hear
on the 4-track original.
Greg,
In Pittsburgh, on the officially declared "Donnie
Iris Day." The 25th anniversary show is tonight...
