oh, crap.
I met Bill back in 78 or 79. I was in a band called The Scientific
Americans and we were running a seat of the pants sound company and booking
agency in Western, MA (some bands we booked: The Stranglers, Pere Ubu, DNA,
The Suburbs, Pylon, The Slits, etc.) and we heard about Bill when we
started listening to The Insect Surfers. We combined forces, shared
mailing lists and contacts, eventually we booked The Surfers in our area.
Bill got us several nice gigs in DC; one very memorable one at DC Space
with The Surfers. Bill opened up his home and kitchen to us, we did the
same when he came north.
That was all such a long time ago. Bill was a devoted music fan and he
worked hard trying to get people to hear new sounds. He promoted our
second record in the DC area relentlessly. I don't think he was looking
for fame and fortune, he was a true indie at heart who just loved the music
and had an encyclopedic knowledge.
and he ran one hell of a great record store. What a shame.
