Rotten news today. Bill Asp, whose Wasp Records was responsible for
much of the D.C. pre-hardcore new-wave/pop scene 1977-84, is reported
to have killed himself in Arizona earlier this month.

Wasp bands included Tru Fax, The Strand, The Young Caucasians, The
Insect Surfers, Beex, Cheeters, Golden Bats... but Bill played a much
more influential part of the scene in many ways as promoter,
store-owner and all-around cheerleader for the D.C. scene. (His store
VaRTX -Virginia Record & Tape Exchange- closed in 1986 or so.)

Various Wasp label alums are workign to put together a memorial gig
or two: I'll try to have further info for Audities as it comes along,
but hopefully there are others on this list who'll have more to add.

peace,

Chuck Warner
