No there will never be another Beatles. Will there be an act BIGGER THAN the
Beatles? Absolutely. Just as the Beatles surpassed Elvis, and Elvis
surpassed Frank Sinatra, and Sinatra surpassed Glenn Miller....going right
back to the Mozarts and Beethovens who everyone thought were the "shit" from
their own era.
One day there will be a musical entity as big as religion itself (or so
Lennon would have thought) because that's the nature of pop culture. It may
never be in our lifetime, but my belief is that now that youv'e got a
capitalist trade situation in mainland China, the exporting of new, as of
yet unheard talent from the Pacific Rim may trigger a pop music event to
eclipse even the Beatles....mainly because there are more people per capita
in THAT part of the world than this. Chances are real high that THEY will
discover the next William Hung.
It's rather arrogant to think that no one can beat the 'best'. They thought
that about the 4-minute mile. And if Madonna keeps making music she may very
well beat a fistful of records already set by The Beatles.
