First, many thanks for yr very kind works, Jake....always a nice way to
start the day. :-) much appreciated.

Second, the MORE power pop/melodic rock labels, the better!! I'd love,
love, LOVE to see more folks to 'go for it'. Start a label, any
label---wherever ones' passion lies.

It's not competition.....how could it be w/ a market this small?! the
numbers of labels like NL and the ilk are very, very small. We all just
want to get the music heard.

And, for NL, too....the more labels that put out great stuff, the better it
helps the mail order/online record store side of NL. That's what pays the
bills, salaries, taxes, rent, therapy(well, looking into that after the last
few years), etc., anyway. I encourage folks all the time to look at
doing it, starting a small label. You frustrated that no one has released
your favorite obscuro from the 70's on CD, or a new favorite band shopping a
record and wonder why NL does not do it? Well, do yrself, I'll say(nicely)
and offer my help, resources, connections to get it going. (I'm very
serious here if anyone is thinking about it..)

So I get very excited when someone decides "I'm crazy but...i'm going for
it!" and does it. I'll support it all the way. As should many folks on
this list, imho. It would not be as 'crazy' if that sort of support were
there.

From this list and a *great* example of someone just 'going for it' and
doing it in a realistic, effective, high quality manner(and one of the
nicest folks on this list, as well) is Anna Borg/TallBoy ---- the best
example off the top of my head. She had the twinge, the urge, the
whatever. Asked questions with a lot of people she know, online/offline,
started simply, small, dipped a toe in w/ some 7" singles even though no one
buys them, only because she wanted to and 'what people want be damned'...it
was a good beginning point---and low risk, too. and then started hearing
more and more great music that she thought she could do something with,
help the artist, facilitate getting the music out there.

It didn't make sense if you looked at it on paper. But she did it,
nonetheless.

Anna let that genuine love of the music and the people who made the music
guide the decision. That is just priceless in my book. And worthy of
respect and any support that NL can muster up to help keep it going.

The quality of CD's Tall Boy has put out in a short period of time is
really stunning. Not a lot(yet), sure...but each one, simply, great. And
deserved of getting heard by practically everyone on this list. (and Lord
knows, that Eugene Edwards' name should be dropped more often on this
list....one of the best debuts in pop that you will hear this year, period!)

BUY Tall Boy, make a difference(and rest assured, each sale does make a real
difference). Make a statement that means something for indie music in a time
where it's not really valued like it was not too long ago.

And if anyone on this list has had a similar twinge...there's a lot of
resources on this list to help you and make it less daunting and remove any
of the mystique......Anna, me, Ronald, Jaime and more! we're here. And
I'm sure all of us willing to help with getting it going. :-)

Peace,
Bruce
