(please forgive spelling errors, I'm using my mom's
tiny mac laptop and my big bear paws are making it
hard to type.)
Caught my first IPO SF show last night at Thee
Parkside, cool little venue, but...little. I've never
seen such serious ping pong players...and my cousin
was in tournaments!
So, I guess one band didn't show, so Maple Mars had to
open the night and JEEZZUUUSSS were they awesome. I
may have to vote them best hair of IPO. I forget now
who I originally voted "best hair" but they will have
to settle for runner ups now. The guitar sounds were
awesome and the songs off their cd "Circular Haze"
really shine in a live setting like that. Brian
Kassan's Nehru was groovy too. (and that's the name
of my new band, by the way.) Oh, and did I tear up a
little when they closed their set with "care of cell
44"? you bet I did.
Next up were the Chantigs and I dug their angular
guitar sounds and clever mod-pop tunes.
Then, of course, Sparkle*Jets UK took the stage and I
realized they may be my favorite band right now. What
more can I say?
And then...as so many nights before, my gums went numb
and I vaguely remember standing in line for the
women's bathroom with a lady I had just met, loudly
chanting "REAL MEN PEE OUTSIDE" That is to say, one
tequila shot too many.
Ah...to be back in San Francisco. Just like old
times. But with better music.
