Hello All,
I'm on Digest and I've only had a chance to skim them lately, but I wanted to toot the
Not Lame horn about yet another GREAT release! The new Blue Ash two-CD "Around
Again" collection is a must have for all fans of 70s Badfinger and Raspberries-style
power pop!!
I may be biased here as I hail from Blue Ash's Youngstown, OH hometown (also home
to Stiv Bators, the Human Beinz and Phil Keaggy) but this is a righteous collection of
demos and alternate versions of songs that have appeared on their two legit releases. I
have owned a trebly tape of many of these songs for years and it is absolutely
wonderful to hear them nicely mastered and presently with the care they deserve.
If you are a fan of their Mercury release "No More, No Less", this collection includes a
wealth of demo songs that rival the quality of that fine release. Also, it is quite a
revelation to hear the best cuts from their Playboy release "Front Page News"
presentled without the horns that buried those tracks on the LP.
After you hear this, I think it is safe to say that you will have to reconsider Blue Ash's
place in the pantheon of mid-70s power pop Gods! Check it out!!
Thanks Bruce for adding another piece to the historical power pop puzzle! Hey, since
there are over 200 tracks in the can, can we expect a Vol. 2??
Best,
Herb Somers
