For me, it's probably
1) Navy Blues
2) One Chord To Another
3) Pretty Together
4) Action Pact
5) Twice Removed
6) Between the Bridges
7) Smeared
What's interesting is that we both seem to feel that "Between the Bridges"
was not their finest hour, and most people I've talked to seem to really like
that one. I was HUGE into them about the time that album was released--in
fact, I was in college and most of my indie rock friends LOVED them too--and I
think it really was a big part of the reason that people stopped caring. I saw
them live on the tour for that and all they did was play the entire album
with a couple old songs for encores. It was not the most thrilling show I ever
saw. The big difference between that album and the two before it, I think, was
that it was the moment that they transitioned from being a really inspired
blend of 90s indie rock, 60s pop, and 70s stadium rock into revivalists,
specifically trying to remake '70s rock records, and neglecting their other
strengths in the process. That said, I think the two since have both been an
improvement on that album while still working off that same template. I also could
never get into "Twice Removed" as much as I'm probably supposed to, so it
rates a little lower, but I love it anyway. --Jason
