OK...I'll bite.
I am not sure if it qualifies as brand new, since it came out in Spring, but lately, I have been grooving to Butchies "Make Yr Life". I knew nothing about this trio other than they backed Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls on her solo tour a few years back, and from their appearance and some of the lyrics, they appear to be gay. However, a review of this album piqued my interest, as the review seemed to indicate that they were migrating from Riot Grrrl to...of all things....Power Pop. Perhaps the cover shots consisting of multi-colored gumballs and the band members blowing bubbles provided a clue...
The lead off track "Send Me You" is one of the best Power Pop songs I have recently heard. It is immediately catchy and has been on repeat quite a bit here at work. While the rest of the tracks do not stick in your brain as much as the lead off track, they are very solid and very good. A special shout out to Melissa York, the drummer. She rocks!
The final track is a stripped down- slowed down version of, of all things, The Outfield's "Your Love". I find this CD simply delightful.
