Hi David. Well, as one of the older IPO attendees, I am enjoying the
diversity. Big City Rock was great last night as were all the others. I
hope I never get too old to like good, loud rock 'n' roll! I may be deafer
than I already am, but I'm enjoying the bands. Thanks! : )

Subject: Re: IPO 7-19
Back in '98, when word first got out that International Pop Overthrow was
going to happen, amid the many positive reactions were also those from the
naysayers, who sniffed "ahhh, this festival's just gonna have a bunch of
bands who wear Beatle boots and whose songs sound like their parents' record
collections, etc..." This stereotype, while not true even at that time (I
mean, sure, we had, and always will have, Beatle-inspired power pop bands at
IPO, but surely not "just" that type), is significantly less accurate now,
as I have made a concerted effort to broaden the stylistic base of the bands
at the festival. We've got indie-rock bands like Sweetness,
shoegazer-inspired bands like Meow Meow, "new rock" bands like The Vacation,
the soulful pop of bands like The Hatch, etc...along with, of course,
traditional power pop artists. Nonetheless, the stereotype still exists in
the perceptions of some people but, as it is with anything else in life,
stereotypes die hard and I have to accept that.
Broad Based Pop Rules!!!!!
Take Care,
David
