Greetings All,

Chris Jackson from Nice Guy Eddie making a rare appearance on the Audities list asking for your help (I still read, but I'm usually about a month late or more, so I never reply due to my being so behind).

First of all, my subject quote (lesser known Frank Black song) is a little misleading in that Nice Guy Eddie is not California-bound, but after years of talking about it, it seems that I might actually be. The good news from that (which makes this post relevant) is that I will hopefully be finishing up some recordings with Robbie Rist soon and will have them available...I'm long overdue, so I hope there are people left that might still be interested.

Here's the part about needing help though:

I have a bachelor's and master's degree in environmental engineering and have been working at that for several years now in Tampa, FL. I couldn't handle it anymore though and have now been jobless for the past 3 weeks. They let me go (not surprisingly...my heart's not been in it for a long time), but it was the best thing to happen to me. As anyone who knows me can attest to, my heart is not with engineering, but with creative endeavors.

So what does this have to do with you all, right? Well, in addition to music, I'm also practically obsessed with cartoons and animation. I will, of course, need a job out in L.A., which is why I am coming to you all. I am artistic and have drawn casually for all of my life, but I've not gone to art school and I don't have a "portfolio" or anything. I've practically "studied" cartoons for all of my life and have always watched them with a closer eye than most, I think. I've been doing voices all of my life, too, but, again, not professionally or anything. I feel I'm highly creative and I'm intelligent, so I know I could certainly add a lot to an animation-minded workplace in whatever capacity they would need.

Again, simply asking for advice or help, anyone out there lurking on the list that deals with animation that might be able to help me with a job or point me in the right direction? Don't hesitate if you think you have something that's not exactly what I'm looking for because I'm not even sure what that is!

On a positive note, I have an L.A. engineering firm interested in hiring me and they are bringing me out for an interview next week, so anyone that has any contacts, let them know I'll be in town soon and wanting to talk to them. On a side note, if I have to take the engineering job, it will get me moved out there where I can look out for a job like I described above.

Thanks everyone for listening/reading and my apologies for the lengthy post. Please reply to me offlist so as not to bug anyone more so than I already have (morly@aol.com). Any ideas are welcome (cartoons, music, entertainment, etc.)!

-Chris

PS - I'm expecting full support from all of you Southern Californians once I get out there and start playing regularly!
