I play an Epiphone Riviera, a re-issue 70's Strat, and a D'armond Jetstar(I think, kinda shaped like a womans body.) Needless to say Epiphone is like any other guitar: you play one- feels like crap; play another and it's awesome. I have to say I got lucky with Epiphone because the stock pickups on my Riviera are Kawai's, I beleive, and they sound amazing w/no unwanted feedback(it is a semi-hollow body, so you're gonna get feedback occasionaly.) However I tried another Riviera(looking for a second for a backup)- actually tried 2 of them in different shops, and they both had this high pitch squeel-y feedback even at volumes that were pretty tame. That's something to look out for.
The V's are pretty uncomfortable to play sitting down(duh), and tend to sound thin on the Rhythm for me.
The access to the upper frets is a plus, but be careful of intonation issues. If the bridge is placed poorly or the frets put on sloppily then the instrument won't ever really be in tune(not good for recording).
The Thunderbird is much better for Rhythm, although the V cuts better through a heavy sound for soloing.
In case you haven't tried it it is also rediculously heavy...I'm thinking lighter than the American Gibson version, but still. A couple sets a night and you'll be wishing for a Parker Fly. (yuck)
hope this helped some,
later, joe
