I bought the book, but haven't started it yet. What I've heard so far,
though, is that it's excellent and informative and funny. Jake was a really
likable, non-rock-star kind of guy.
I once met him after a Semisonic gig through a mutual friend, and we talked
about music for a half-hour. As Jonathan said, Jake really is a pleasant,
down-to-earth sort -- which made me keep looking back behind the stage to
see if I could spot his evil twin that played drums in a big-deal rock band.
I'm eagerly anticipating cracking open a copy of Jake's book and plowing
through it. It'll have to wait, however, as I've just started reading Graham
Parker's novel from last year, *The Other Life Of Brian* (subtitled
"Cultists, Extinct Marsupials, and Cryptozoologists; In Other Words, Your
Average Rock Tour"). Five pages in, and I already know that I'm going to be
chuckling all the way through it. Parker's a damned funny man who certainly
enjoys making sport of his reputation for being crabbed and bitter via his
protagonist and alter ego, jaded has-been rock star Brian Porker.
