This actually brings up a point...
I bought a condo last summer--the first time I've *owned* rather than rented
a home--and one of my plans was to try and get some built-in bookshelves to
run along an entire wall in my living room to store all the CDs. I figured
that If I go through all the trouble to make them (or have them made, rather...
a carpenter I am not), then I shouldn't make them to be exclusively for CDs
since it could actually make it harder to sell the house. I mean, how many
potential buyers need storage for 2000 CDs? But I figured if I make them as
bookshelves that can be divided into two CD shelves with a modular middle shelf
then that would work. I've found that IKEA also sells a bookshelf system that
does virtually the same thing, though it's fairly pricey (the entire package
to suit my capacity would run over $600, and it still wouldn't be *quite*
enough room) considering that it wouldn't increase the value of my condo, the
way that much more expensive custom built-in bookshelves would. So my
question.... since so many of us here have very large CD/LP collections, what have
most of you done to store them in such a way that's accessible and aesthetically
pleasing? I think I currently have somewhere around 1600 CDs and would like
my capacity to be around 2000. My record store job means I take home an awful
lot of music (though I'm quick to eliminate things that I know I'll never
listen to again). But currently they're something of a mess, despite being
perfectly alphabetized. They're scattered across four different storage units
around the edges of my guest bedroom--the only room that I'll put them in
because they look so bad. But I want my CD collection front-and-center, and I want
to find a good way to do it. Any suggestions?
