Whoever did the mastering for the Emmit Rhodes S/T (proably some Jr
engineer at
MCA - before the merger) proably grabbed a production master out of the vault,
threw it on the deck and mastered it without any extra EQ or noise reduction. 
I also have the "Mirror" and "Farewell to Paradise" reissues and you can hear
tape drop-outs now and then. I bet these were done from production masters
Dunhill-ABC sent to Japan in the early 70's and not the original first
generation tapes. 

I hope the original masters somewhere in the Universal USA vaults are in
better
shape. Its a shame that many master tapes from the 70's and even into the mid
80's are quickly deteriorating. Another reason to hang onto your vinyl!
