Anybody have more info about this band? Certainly seems worth persuing more of their material, but like Sgt. Shultz, "I know No-o-o-o-thing!'
I know somebody on this list must be into them....

I'm sure others will chime in and realise this has been answered, but PFR were/are Pray For Rain.
They came out with their S/T album in '94 and it has some great Beatle-esque sounds, but it's the harmonies and the songs themselves that stood out.

The next release was "Goldies Last Day"(the dog song you mentioned) from '95 and that is the most Jelly they ever were...just that song. It literaly made me cry the first time I heard it. The rest of the record has some moments, but as far as full-on Jelly-ness, "Goldie..." made the biggest impression on musicians and power-pop fans.

The next record is "Great Lengths", from '96, which has some really nice production, although not all the songs are stand outs. The title cut, "Merry-Go Round", and "Wonder Why"(first 3 songs on the disc)shine with strings and interesting vocal and instrument arrangements. And a cover of a classic CCM song by Keith Green, "Trials turned to Gold" still makes me smile- having heard the original a bunch from my mom's CCM record collection.

In '96 they released "Them", which rocks harder than anything they ever did. It also is least liked by most fans because of this. I really like it. It may be messy and smashed(compressed)to death, but I still like almost every song. They broke up after this CD and later released a best of called "the Late Great PFR" which is a good starting point for anyone. The "dog" song is on there and most of the best from all the rest...as they say.

They've recently regrouped and released "Disapeared" which is more a return to form though, sadly, that means mostly CCM pablum. "Amsterdam" is the only song I can remember off the top of my head, and it's not all that riviting.

I look forward to seeing what they do next, if anything. Get the "best of" and go from there.

Aaannnnnd...I'm spent.
