Ric actually rather shamelessly copped from poets such as Lawrence
Ferlinghetti (who owns City Lights Books in San Francisco) in such songs as
"Double Life," which lifts lines directly from one of his poems. I can't
recall exactly but there were other instances too, I'm sure meant to be more
respectfully homages than mere ripoffs.
I don't know if the Tweedy tome has been discussed, but as far as its merits
as "poetry" (quote-unquote), it is very good stuff. Then again, many of the
Wilco lyrics are unselfconsciously poetic. I recommend the book.
